Herbal treatments for HPV? [08 Jan 2010|12:53pm]

vaginapagina

[mirandapadgett]
A close friend of mine has been diagnosed with HPV and her doctor has been having her come in quarterly to have biopsies done. She has not been prescribed medication. She has squamish (sp?) cells which her doctor says are pre-cancerous and they are having her in so often to watch them and make sure they don't become cancerous. Said friend is a very crunchy, natural, vegan, 80% raw foodist type and would like to find an herbal remedy to help get her cells back to normal. Does such a thing exist? Has anyone heard of something like this?

Public sex [08 Jan 2010|02:31am]

Apologies if this is not the place to ask this question...

I remember hearing a while ago about a website dedicated to sex in public places... wherein, it would describe, say, clubs, restaurants, etc.. where if you were caught, drastic repercussions are not usually taken. Also, tips on locations that are easily accessible, not very well monitored, etc. Likely personal reviews, commenting system, etc.

Anyone else know of this?

I'm in Canada, if that helps. :)

Thanks VP! XD

Male Sex-drive Psychology Question [08 Jan 2010|01:21am]

vaginapagina

[catwho]
[ mood | disappointed ]

Aunt Flo is visiting me this week, and my husband, being the wonderfully virile guy that he is, has opted to perform the one handed tango daily until things clear up. I've never minded his overactive sex drive (I enjoy it 24 days out of the month), but he has constantly rebuffed my offers to "assist" which disappoints me a little bit. Maybe he wants some alone time, hearkening back to pre-marital bachelor days? Or maybe he feels guilty about me not being able to enjoy it?

Is there anything I should be doing to encourage him? He's squicked out by the thought of vaginal sex during my period, and I am too, so that's out.

(On the other hand, I'd much rather he enjoy the alone-time at home than seek out the company of other ladies. For this I suppose I should be grateful.)

"Normal" periods? [07 Jan 2010|11:54pm]

vaginapagina

[songofdestiny]
Hello there VPers. I've been enjoying your community for quite some time and hope that I can find some guidance in your caring and wonderful environment.

Okay. I know that all women are different and the whole period experience is subjective, but
what defines a "normal" period in terms of cramps, pain, etc.? I have the whole cramps and bloating thing, but I've also been experiencing things that really concern me but don't seem to raise awareness in my doctors or family members. I can't tell if I've somehow angered the vagina-gods and now mine hates me or my concern is geniune.

Why is it so angry? )

Is this is what some (healthy) women really experience during their periods? Does birth really solve bad periods? Am I alone out there? :[

questions about my stupid next annual..and fear of exams [07 Jan 2010|06:46pm]

vaginapagina

[glortw]
soo. last annual, had abnormal pap, got colposcopy, they said "meh it's just what we thought, nothing serious, not cancer, just get a pap in a year." now PP says it's time for my annual again. what will they do when my pap is abnormal AGAIN? i do NOT want to go through another colposcopy.

also, i really really really hate exams. not just like "meh dentist-like annoyance"..but i start crying and refuse to remove my hands from covering my genitals until repeatedly asked if i want to reschedule. i am terrified of anyone, even the clinician, seeing my parts. i still don't let my boyfriend ever do anything to me in the light. how to ever ever get over this? i know that everyone's cooch is different. variety is normal. intellectually, i get this. but to ME, the combination of my huge thighs and my disgusting, huge, gross snatch just..seems like it can't be anything like any doctor has ever seen before. i worry that they will definitely judge me and go home and laugh about me to their husband or whatever. is there any way to feel any better about this besides telling myself "you're normal, everyone has different noonoos"?

Period-ing on a Liquid Diet [07 Jan 2010|04:45pm]

vaginapagina

[frolicnaked]
So, the MenstroMonsterâ„¢ (term courtesy of [info]paraxeni) has decided to grace me with copious and extended vomiting upon its arrival this cycle. Since this has happened before and since the vomiting happens when the pain gets past a certain threshold, I do think it's my period causing it and not any bacteria or viruses. I've not kept down solid food since Tuesday night, and I don't see this changing for at least another day when my flow will probably get heavier. (Yay?)

I've been subsisting on the meal replacement drinks (Boost/Ensure/generic equivalents) mostly because the vanilla flavor is pretty bland -- important because even the liquid food is not guaranteed to stay put. Also small amounts of water frequently throughout the day. Just wondering, though, if anyone has additional tips for maintaining proper hydration, which at this point is my biggest concern, as well as nutrition, which is getting to be a secondary issue.

In the meantime, I will be writing my uterus a strongly worded letter. It already owns my pelvic cavity, low back, hips, lower GI tract, and sometimes head (thank you, menstrual migraines). It needs to know that it is NOT allowed to take over other organs and systems as well. :/

Missed period(s) and starting HBC again [07 Jan 2010|05:02pm]

vaginapagina

[interrowhimper]
Hopefully you folks have some insight...

I recently moved to another country. After the move, I got my first period without incident, but after that, have missed two in a row. I'm definitely not pregnant. At first I thought there might be stress-related causes for the missed periods, but I think largely my lifestyle here is a lot more stress-free than it was before the move.

More complications: I stopped taking HBC in August, just before moving, and that first period in the new country was the first real period I've had in over two years, not counting withdrawal bleeds on HBC. Before I started the pill, my cycle was around 45 days, so at first when my period was late I figured maybe it'd just changed sometime over the course of using HBC...

Now, I'm in a situation where I'd like to start HBC again. Except that the start instructions all have to do with waiting until one gets one's period...

I guess my questions are, then, 1) what are some possible reasons I could be skipping periods (other than stress/lack thereof) and 2) is it possible to start HBC again without waiting for my next period, which seems oddly elusive?

Thanks!

Pregnancy - symptoms and survival rate? [08 Jan 2010|12:17am]

vaginapagina

[brokeyourplate]
[ mood | restless ]

Hello there VPers, I have two pregnancy questions..

Is it possible to get pregnancy "symptoms" a few days after conception? Also, is it possible to get the same "symptoms" just through hormonal changes in your cycle or worrying about being pregnant? I'm trying to avoid jumping to conclusions until my period arrives (doesn't arrive?) and I know the only way to be certain is to get tested. I'm too early for a blood test / home pregnancy test (I think?) but thinking about it is driving me mad. I have had cramps, my breasts have swollen, have been crying at the drop of a hat, exhausted all day... I had sex without any BC on 1/1/10, is it possible that this is connected? Is it possible for me to get the symptoms because I *think* I might be pregnant?

Also, I've been trying to gather as much information as possible. I hope this doesn't sound too silly, but I read this article. In the article, it has a chart that says there is only a 50% survival rate later in the second trimester. Is this true? I guess maybe I'm a little emotional at the moment, but that statistic fills me with despair. I know there is a lot of misinformation out there and I shouldn't really over think this too much - so I thought I'd put the questions to you!

Thanks in advance for any comments... : )

EDIT: Thank you, thank you, thank you too ALL commenters. Posting here was the best decision! :D
I'm taking everyone's advice on board. Thanks again!

White blood cells/protein in urine [07 Jan 2010|12:40pm]

vaginapagina

[estrellafugaz85]
So I posted before Christmas about a possible UTI - I had some mild stinging and eventually convinced myself that the pain in my lower back was my kidneys, so I went to the nurse to get my pee tested. She said there were white blood cells and put me on antibiotics - however, the tests in the lab showed nothing. I had to go to my doctor at home for a different matter, and they offered to test my urine while I was there - the dipstick showed nothing at all. My pee was super diluted as I'd been drinking so much water, but they say if I had a kidney infection or anything serious, it would have shown up. I went back today just to check that everything was normal, but the dipstick showed protein and white blood cells. The nurse said she'd send it off to the lab but that it wasn't abnormal for people to sometimes have white blood cells in their urine and if there are no symptoms and no infection found, there's no need to worry. So if this sample comes back negative, should I just stop worrying about it?

brief thanks [02 Jan 2005|12:50pm]

[ mood | thankful ]

hey all,
I just wanted to say thankyou to this community in general. I've been feeling really anxious lately, about a few things I won't go into in much detail. One of the main things at the moment is my body image, which I thought I wass doing ok with until my well-meaning father decided to step in and push me to lose weight. Which, yes, I need to do, but I will do it on my terms, not his. And I dont need to lose as much as he thinks I do.

Anyway, my point is that thinking about this brought on a whole heap of negative thoughts, about myself and how I feel, about how I've dealt with myself this past year and also about a pretty bad relationship I used to be in and (annoyingly) haven't fully recovered from yet... and so I went back through the archives here. there was so much love and support, and so many people caring about others here. I dont even need to post some of my concerns because guess what? other people have them too. And all of you have given reassurances and help.

so I guess this is my late night, slightly tipsy and tearful thanks to everyone here. For being the supportive community of people that you are :D

Nuva Ring vs. Pill (Yaz) [06 Jan 2010|10:44pm]

I was on Yaz for 4.5 year and besides a low sex drive I never really had any other symptoms. My gyno just prescribed me the Nuva Ring. I've read a lot of bad stuff about it including weight gain and a greater chance of developing blood clots than taking the pill.

Any take on this? or the Nuva Ring in general? What other birth control pills do you guys like? Do you know if the hormones are the same for the Nuva Ring and Yaz?

A question about breakthrough bleeding [07 Jan 2010|02:13pm]

Hello again. I was hoping you guys could tell me what's normal for breakthrough bleeding. I'm on Depo. I understand that the bleeding can be more than spotting, but now I'm wanting to know if dark and full of clots is normal for breakthrough bleeding?

ETA* Also, is it normal to get moody and crampy when it all begins? They are the main reasons I was so sure this was a period.

Blood cots [06 Jan 2010|08:55pm]

[fallenpiece]
I'm not sure if I am just freaking myself out here or what but i currently am using the Nuva ring. I've been using it for the past several months and it worked wonderfully for me. Over the last month I've been getting migraines and headaches ( I used to get them as a child but they went away as I got older.) and now I am having shortness of breath. I read on the nuva ring side effects that it is a possible blood cot in the lungs..

I'm kinda freaking myself out over this and I was wondering if anyone had any advice to get me to calm down and if anyone had a blood cot in the lung before what did they do to remove it? I keep trying to find stuff online but all I am finding is things for lung cancer. =\

thank you <3

Unusual Menstrual Cramps [06 Jan 2010|07:30pm]

vaginapagina

[sinn_ister]
I just found this community from a search I did to get some answers about unusual menstrual cramps I'm experiencing. It seems pretty nifty!

So today is Day 5 of my period, which is usually the last day. I usually only have painful cramps during the first day or two, and only mild cramps for the last three days. A few hours ago I experienced sudden painful cramps that were worse than what I usually feel on the first day. They were so bad I was doubled over in Kmart from the pain and shock. I went home and took a 600 mg Ibuprofen and passed out for a couple hours. The cramps are not as bad now but it's hard to tell if this is from the Ibuprofen or not.

What do you guys think of this situation? I don't remember this happening to me before. I've had painful cramps before but never on the fifth day of my period. Is this something I should be worried about?

Sorry if this post is poorly written, I'm very sensitive to painkillers and feeling woozy! I promise my responses will be more clearheaded once it wears off.  : D

Staying quiet/loud during sexual activity... [06 Jan 2010|06:14pm]

vaginapagina

[dark_blue44]
I have this nagging question that has been on my mind for a while now. Growing up, the topic of sex rarely ever came up in my house. As an only child, I didn't have older sisters to turn to and didn't feel like talking about it with my mom. I learned to masturbate probably around age 16. I learned to do it very quietly so that I wouldn't make any noise even when I climaxed. College life has also forced me to keep quiet so that roommates wouldn't hear me, etc.

I got into a sexual relationship (we never had PIV sex. Just oral) with a guy and I noticed that I was no more vocal with him either. Do you think men find it a turn-off if women aren't moaning or whatever when they're getting off? He brought me to climax almost every time we did stuff... and my breathing would get heavier and I'd try to clue him in that he was doing something I liked, but it was never natural for me to make any kind of noise that seems to be so popular in any porn I've seen.

I just wanted to get your thoughts on this! Thanks :)

Fibroid treatment (including hysterectomy) and bellydancing [06 Jan 2010|10:36am]

vaginapagina

[jenwrites]
Hello! I'm a new member, so please let me know if this question has been answered elsewhere. I looked in the archives, and didn't see it addressed, but I may not have been searching correctly.

A year ago, my doctor discovered a small lump during my annual pelvic exam, and ultrasound revealed that it was a fibroid. It also revealed that I additionally have a very large fibroid on the back wall of my uterus that's pressing backwards, and if it grows, it could squeeze my colon shut, which could kill me. (It's also pulling my uterus out of alignment, but that's far less of a concern to me, as I'm child-free by choice and intend to stay that way.)

We've adopted a "wait and see" approach, and so far, all is well, but if the big one grows, I'm going to need to get it treated, and I'd rather do it on my terms than as emergency surgery when my colon backs up. Here's the issue: I'm a bellydancer who's only recently gotten good enough to perform, and all of the treatment options I was preliminarily presented with sound like they'd stop me from dancing for months, and perhaps set my performance skills back by a year or more:

- Starving the fibroids with pellets: it's non-surgical, but the amount of pain involved sounds daunting. Prolonged abdominal pain will mean no practice or performance until the process is over, which means skill loss. Also, it's not a cure, so I might have to do it repeatedly.

- Surgically removing the fibroids: this would involve cutting through my abdominal muscles. From what I've read on bellydance recovery from a c-section, it takes anywhere from 6 to 24 months for a dancer to regain full abdominal control after having her abs cut through. Also, it's not a cure, so again, I might have to do it repeatedly.

- Hysterectomy: see above about cutting abdominal muscles. I've read that it's difficult to get a vaginal hysterectomy if you've never given birth, and I'm not sure "but I'm a bellydancer and I need my abdominals to remain intact" will convince my health insurance company to authorize the procedure if it will be more difficult/more costly. The up-side is that I will never have to have fibroid treatment again.

I'm having a follow-up pelvic ultrasound in a week, and depending on what it reveals, I may need to make a treatment decision. If we had Star Trek transporter technology, I'd just have my uterus beamed out and get it over with, since I'm not using it for anything and don't ever intend to. Are there any bellydancers (or other dancers/athletes that need agile and strong abs) in this community that have been through this and can tell me what the recovery will be like for any of the above options? I'd welcome hearing from people who've had c-sections as well, since that's probably got a similar muscular recovery time to a hysterectomy.

Thanks!

Stopping a period and itch... [06 Jan 2010|06:55pm]

vaginapagina

[jameelah]
Where to start? I am currently 2 weeks into my period and there seems to be no end in sight. Sure, it had been 9 weeks since my last bleed (which was from a D&C for a molar pregnancy), so I expected it to be a bit different and perhaps a bit longer, but seriously I've had enough now. I've heard of things like Parsley for inducing periods, is there anything natural to make one stop!?  I am on Depo by the way, still have a few weeks left before the next shot is due.

Also, any ideas on an itching/soreness I have? It's currently on the inside of my labia minora. It looks red and bumpy. The exact thing happened last time I bled after the D&C about 14 days into it, just like this time. Last time it developed into the most extreme itch I've ever experienced and also spread to the entire inside of my vagina. I'm wondering if it's a hormone thing or if it's a change in the blood that I'm reacting to. I saw my doctor last time, but by the time I could get in to see her the worst of it was over and she had no idea of what it could be. These two times are the only times I've experienced anything like this. I use cloth pads, but I use them even when I'm not on my period so that can't be it (also, the fact that it's inside doesn't point to that being the cause). I wasn't using anything other than pads after the D&C either. No signs of a YI either, although I did get one last time, but that was only after all the skin from inside my vagina peeled off after the itching episode was pretty much over for a few days. I'm baffled, so any ideas would be appreciated.
Oh, something of note, back when I used disposable pads I used to get a rash on my labia majora near the end of my period which I always put down to the disposable pads, but now I am kind of thinking it sort of fits in with the idea of hormones or reacting to the blood...
